P.S. Вокалист - басист Matt McCourt сформировал группу в 1982 году под именем "Evil Genius". В том же году он записал demo с тремя треками в студии "Ace Tunnel Sound" в Portland с музыкантами Dave Koening, Chon Carter и Kip Doran. После нескольких изменений в составе было записано ещё одно demo с названием "Evil Genius", которое позже было издано как альбом "Dr. Mastermind Must Die!" под оригинальным названием группы "Evil Genius". Этим составом группа сыграла несколько концертов, прежде чем музыканты разбежались так и не получив контрактных предложений от музыкальных лейблов. После отправки demo "Evil Genius" главе лейбла "Shrapnel Records" Mike Varney, Matt McCourt был предложен контракт при условии, что он пригласит в группу барабанщика Deen Castronovo, с которым он уже играл раньше в группе "Wild Dogs". На гитару они нашли Kurt James. Незадолго до выпуска альбома "Dr. Mastermind", группа была переименована в "Mastermind" по просьбе их звукозаписывающего лейбла. Вскоре после этого имя группы снова было изменено, на этот раз на "Dr. Mastermind", после того, как другая группа под названием "Mastermind" пригрозила подать на них в суд. Первые треки для альбома были записаны в студии "Cascade" в Portland, штат Oregon. Сведение и мастеринг проходили в студии "Prairie Sun" в Cotati. После выхода альбома "Dr. Mastermind", музыканты Deen Castronovo, Kurt James и сессионный гитарист Ronn Chick покинули группу. С этого момента группа состояла только из Matt McCourt, который в последующие годы выпустил DVD и несколько Compilation на своём лейбле "US Metal Records". В начале 2000-х он переиздал альбом "Dr. Mastermind", включив в него дополнительно живые записи и новый трек Evil Seed. Примерно в то же время он также выпустил DVD "Captured Alive! - One Night Stand" и compilation "History of Evil Genius", в который вошли ранее не выпускавшиеся демо-записи.
